BOARD MEETING – FEBRUARY 2008

 

 

 

This is a summary of Key Points only from the Board meeting held 21/22 February 2008 in Auckland.  The meeting welcomed Vicky Noble as a new Board member.

 

  • Introduction of accrual accounting from next financial year.
  • No Policy, Politics & Practice Workshop to be held this year – proposed that a workshop based around Leadership be held instead.
  • College endorsement for short courses – proposed process outlined by Judy Yarwood.  Panel of individuals drawn from the expertise database is required.
  • Proposed that a high profile workshop be held in conjunction with the next AGM.
  • Trailblazer Travel Awards to continue to be available to members.
  • Scholarships – presently five valued at $750 each – proposed that these change to four valued at $1,000 from 2009.  More vigorous advertising for scholarships and Trailblazer Travel Awards is required for 2009.
  • Resignation received from Philippa Cole, the College Administrator.  Replacement also to take on project management activities, with support from a casual/on call assistant.
  • The College to provide some financial contribution to Jenny Carryer's attendance at an Obesity Symposium in Oxford, England in March 2008.  Report on symposium to be included in next Te Puawai.
  • Leadership Workshop – Proposal to be made to DHBNZ Nursing and Midwifery Strategy Group to support a workshop conducted by the College.
  • Process of joining the College – following passing of remit at 2007 AGM, a proposed revised process be circulated via the College discussion group with feedback requested from members.  Remit re outcome would then go to 2008 AGM for approval.  
  • Expertise Database – limited response from College membership following inclusion of form with November’s Te Puawai.  Form to be placed on website and message sent to members to complete and return.  Reminder also to be included in March Te Puawai.
  • 2009 Conference – Approach received from Medical Industry Association to organise 2009 Conference.  Wellington may be possible venue.
  • Health Manifesto – College and NZNO to collaborate on Manifesto for 2008 elections.  Regional groups to be encouraged to hold meetings prior to the election inviting representatives from political parties to attend – questions to focus on Party’s contribution to the health sector.
  • Debbie Penlington to represent the College on Ministry of Health Advisory Committee on the Clinical Workforce to Support Registered Nurses.
  • College website to be “reskinned”.  Needs more colour and pictures, more modern font and to be more user friendly.  Changes to give more contemporary look.
  • Credentialling – process to be developed as a priority, after determining Nursing Council’s expectations.  Process needs to be accredited by Nursing Council.
