Ara Institute of Canterbury is a vibrant and progressive tertiary institute providing world-class, tertiary-level education throughout the Canterbury and Waitaki region. Ara was created in 2016 when education providers CPIT and Aoraki Polytechnic merged, bringing together two well-established organisations and over 200 years of collective experience and success.
Our talented staff, innovative industry collaborators and supportive community partners are passionate about the role they play in our students' success.
The Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health offers a range of programmes from entry level through to master’s degrees for those working in or seeking careers in the wider health and wellbeing sectors. These include certificate level and youth pathway programmes in health and wellbeing, the New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing, bachelor’s degrees in nursing, midwifery, social work, medical imaging and applied sciences, graduate certificate and diploma programmes and post graduate certificates, diplomas and master’s degrees in health science and nursing. The Department has over 1500 full time equivalent students and a staff of over 100 highly qualified professionals, many of whom are active researchers.
