Mentoring Programme

Negotiating a sound mentoring agreement

When establishing a mentoring relationship or agreement it is important to discuss and explore how the individuals involved anticipate the relationship will work. This can help to prevent situations where participants feel their expectations are not being met. The areas to be considered when establishing a mentoring relationship and agreement are outlined in a sample mentoring agreement included in appendix 2.

It is also important for those involved in a mentoring relationship to agree to regularly review the relationship that has been developed and progress made in addressing their goals and expectations.
