Indemnity Insurance Information

From time to time we receive queries from members regarding the indemnity insurance cover provided by the College. Details of the Indemnity Insurance coverage provided are available to members on request to the College office. Points to note:

Activities covered by the insurance - We receive frequent queries asking if a particular activity associated with nursing or health is covered by the College policy. The insurers expect that the College will determine what constitutes a reasonable sphere of activity for a registered nurse. Generally we support any activity that is related to nursing or arises from preparation and education as a nurse. Where relevant we expect that the member will have appropriate and recognised training and/or qualifications for the additional activity undertaken.

When to contact the College - You should contact the College as soon as there is any indication that a claim may be forthcoming or you are asked to provide a statement relating to an event. We will then notify the insurers and any statement you make will be scrutinised by them prior to your providing it to your employer. In addition this gives us the opportunity to provide you with skilled peer support to ensure the issue is handled appropriately and you are well supported. If we don't know, we cannot help.

Certificates of indemnity insurance cover - If you require confirmation that you have indemnity insurance cover (for vaccinators' courses, etc), please contact the College office and we will provide one without charge. It is not necessary to contact the insurers for this.
