New Zealand nurses are invited to participate in a major international study which aims to provide comprehensive up-to-date information to inform workforce policy and planning. Researchers from Massey University School of Health Sciences are collaborating with colleagues from the University of Queensland to track nurses' health, wellbeing and patterns of workforce participation using on-line questionnaires. This web-based study has a number of advantages over conventional surveys because it
- reduces the time lag between data collection and analysis so the information is always up-to-date
- reduces the potential for human error occurring because participants enter the data directly into the data-base
- can maintain contact through the www with participants wherever they live/work
- is e-co friendly because it is not paper based
- can look at issues relevant to one specialist group e.g. nurse managers, A&E nurses, aged care nurses
This project will operate within a philosophy of partnership in which those in the sector will play an active part in identifying issues that can be explored. The information gained will therefore be of value to the sector not only because nurses are the largest group of practitioners in the health workforce, but also because its findings will be directly relevant to the issues and problems experienced by those involved in the actual provision of health and disability support services.
