Terms of reference

PURPOSE

A  framework for Registered Nurse Practitioners to contribute to individual and national advancement of the NP role.

  • To provide a professional formal network for Nurse Practitioners
  • To provide a forum where practice direction is debated and formulated on a national level
  • To provide a forum to guide and integrate the strategic directions into the context of Nurse Practitioner clinical practice
  • To provide a forum to contribute the ongoing development of nursing as a discipline
  • To provide a  framework for supporting and enhancing NP practice on a national level
  • To act as a source of mentoring and support for all registered Nurse Practitioners in New Zealand
  • To link with equivalent Nurse Practitioner forums internationally
  • To provide a contact point for key stakeholders (internal and external)

MEMBERSHIP / REPRESENTATION

  • Is open to Nurse Practitioners registered with the New Zealand Nursing Council
  • Others may be (be co-opted onto the group?)  invited for specific group activities or discussion
  • Is a division of the College of Nurses Aotearoa. Members of NPNZ are strongly encouraged to pay a subsidy of $70 to CNA if they are not members of CNA to cover costs incurred

 

OFFICERS AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES

Officer positions will be rotated at staggered intervals to ensure continuity.

Chairperson:

  • Term of office two years, and one year as immediate past Chairperson
  • Chair all NPNZ meetings, or if absent will nominate another member as acting chairperson for that meeting
  • Lead and collaborate the development  and maintenance of a  strategic plan
  • Determine and review  progress of the strategic plan
  • Promptly shares communication with members of NPNZ
  • Manage mentoring programme
  • Initiates with other media or other organisations to offer opinion and promote NP’s
  • Represents or delegates NZNP on relevant national groups e.g.NPAC-NZ, ACC.
  • Co-ordinate and send submissions

 

Secretary:

  • Term of office three years
  • Prepares and distributes agenda prior to meeting
  • Receives apologies for meeting
  • Records and circulates minutes to members within two weeks of meeting
  • Records and keeps copies of relevant documents, letters etc
  • Maintains membership database containing correct contact details of all NPNZ members 
  • Contacts new NP’s with information on NPNZ and meeting dates
  • Communication role for NPNZ Conference
  • Send out member profiles

 

Editor/Communication Officer: nominated on a 12-24 monthly basis to publish the Nurse Practitioner newsletter

  • Nominated on 12-18 month basis
  • Editorial decision making on articles submitted for inclusion
  • Manages and produces the quarterly NPNZ newsletter in CNA newsletter in Te Puawai
  • Liaise with secretary to write an article for newsletter re progress of NPNZ
  • Facilitates placement of newsletter on CNA website
  • Liaise with College of Nurses Aotearoa website provider regarding website changes or updates

Conference Convenor – term for one year management of annual conference

Meeting structure

  • Meetings are held twice a year
  • The Secretary will circulate the previous meeting  minutes via email prior to the next meeting
  • A quorum consists of 25% of membership
  • The Chairperson or 25% of membership may call an additional meeting

Reporting

A copy of the minutes will be circulated to all group members by email

REVIEW/AMENDMENTS

Terms of Reference will be reviewed annually or amended with the agreement with a majority of members
