Conference Travel Awards
(Closing date 30 June 2009)
- The Trailblazer Travel Award honours the pioneers who entered the initial Comprehensive Nursing (Polytechnic) programmes, 1972-1977 at ATI (AUT), Christchurch Polytechnic (CPI), and Nelson Technical Institute (NIT) and Wellington Polytechnic (Massey University). The Trailblazer Travel award is in two parts:
- Trailblazer Travel Award (1) – Value $750 each – to attend annual College conference/forum in NZ.
- Trailblazer Travel Award (1) – Value $1500 – to attend or present at an international conference.
- The Trailblazer Travel Awards cover international conference registration, travel and accommodation to a maximum of $1,500.00. Applicants are expected to complete travel by the end of 2009 and provide a report on the outcomes of conference attendance. Retrospective costs will not be considered. Applications close 30 June 2009.

- The time at which the scholarship will be paid out is a Board decision and will depend on the nature of study/research for which the award is being made.
- Successful recipients will need to provide a short report of their work in progress or study outcomes to the Board of the College of Nurses by 15 October 2009.
- It is an expectation that recipients remain a member of the College at least for the duration of the scholarship term.
- An inability to complete planned studies/travel or maintain College membership because of extenuating circumstances will require discussion and may involve partial or full repayment of the award.

Graduate study and research scholarships
(Closing date 31 January 2009)
- The College of Nurses Aotearoa is pleased to demonstrate its support for graduate study and research relating to nursing and health through the provision of scholarships and awards, funded directly by the College.
- Applicants for these scholarships must be nurses registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, be current financial members of the College and be in good standing within the profession.
- Each scholarship/award has been given the name of a woman who has made a significant contribution to the College, to nursing and/or to the well-being of women and Maori in New Zealand:

- Applicants for the scholarships/awards should be:
- Involved in, or planning to undertake, a piece of research including research related to a thesis or research project embedded within a graduate programme of study, relevant to the practice of nursing in New Zealand;
- OR currently enrolled in, or accepted for, a graduate programme of study at masters or doctoral level, within the discipline of nursing.

- The scholarships will be tenable for one year but the holder may re-apply in subsequent years.
- The scholarship/award may be held concurrently with another scholarship or bursary, and is non-taxable in New Zealand.
- Consideration will only be given to applications submitted on the official application form, word processed and in the requested format. Five copies are to be submitted.
- Applications are to be addressed to the Administrator, CNA (NZ) and will be considered by a quorum of no less than two members of the Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee may be advised by Mrs Putiputi O’Brien in the selection of Maori recipients.
- The Scholarship Committee will make a written recommendation to the Board for consideration and final approval. In any year the Scholarship Committee may refrain from making one or more recommendations if no suitable applicant is found.
- Each scholarship/award will be made on merit, taking into consideration the nature of the planned study/research, as well as the applicant's academic merit and participation in the profession and the College.
- In line with the bicultural commitment of the CNA (NZ), preference will be given to Maori nurses for the awards named in honour of Dr Erihapeti Murchie, Dr. Irihapeti Ramsden and Mrs Putiputi O'Brien. However, if there are no suitable applicants from tangata whenua for these awards , they may be given to qualified tauiwi applicants.
- The Dr Irihapeti Ramsden Scholarship is for research or practice development activities that will either: advance or be beneficial for Maori health, or advance cultural safety in nursing education and practice.
- The closing date for applications for all scholarships is 31 January 2009.
