Murchison is a rural service town, with a permanent population of approximately 1100, located half way between Nelson and Westport (1.5 hours travel in either direction). During the summer Murchison becomes a destination for holiday makers seeking the great outdoors. Murchison Hospital and Health Centre is a small integrated rural health service providing a raft of health services including emergency medical and accident services 24/7, general primary care practice, and elderly residential care extending to palliative and respite care when needed.

The Associate Charge Nurse Manger (ACNM) will be responsible for supporting the CNM to promote and lead the development of a cohesive, positive and professional team. They will provide clinical leadership for staff, assist with coaching and supervision, support the development of processes and systems, lead projects and will also provide direct patient care. The ACNM will have delegated responsibility for aspects of the CNM role such as rostering and performance management.

This position includes 0.4FTE day shifts between the hours of 0800 - 1630, Monday to Friday, with the remaining FTE covering additional shifts and some weekend work, as part of a rotating roster which will include some on call for emergencies.

This position is suitable for a senior registered nurse who has the following:

  • Flexible and committed to rural nursing, preferably with advanced assessment skills and emergency nursing experience, including PRIME
  • A highly organised, motivated and adaptable individual with a strong team focus, a composed manner and strong relational skills

A full current drivers licence is essential.

For the health and safety of staff and patients all NMH staff are required to be vaccinated in accordance with the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021 including boosters.
