Introduction
I came to nursing in my mid-30's as a single mum looking for a career that would give me purpose. Since graduating in 2009 I have worked in a variety of clinical environments within mental health services, including Older Persons, Forensic, Acute and Therapeutic Community settings. I taught in the Mental Health clinical courses at Otago Polytechnic for four years, and since late 2023 I have been supporting new graduate and new to mental health services nurses as the Clinical Coordinator for HNZ/TWO Southern New Entry to Specialist Practice programme.
I feel very fortunate to have had access to clinical supervision throughout my career, and I believe that it has helped strengthen my practice and develop my personal and professional resilience. I completed training to be a Clinical Supervisor in 2016 and completed a Graduate Diploma in Professional Coaching in 2023. These qualifications have helped me to develop my practice as a Clinical Supervisor.
I have an eclectic approach to clinical supervision, incorporating aspects of Narrative, Transactional and Solutions Focused approaches. I am committed to embedding the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi and Kawa Whakaruruhau (Cultural Safety) in my practice. I also encourage the use of reflective frameworks that supervisees identify work best for them.
Clinical supervision is the supervisees time to pause, breath and reflect in a safe and protected space. I also believe that the core of effective clinical supervision is the nature of the relationship between the supervisee and supervisor, it is important to find a supervisor who fits for you. I offer a free initial 30-minute meeting for both of us to assess if we might be a good fit, before officially commencing the supervisory relationship.
