Ko Naomi Walker tōku ingoa, he māmā, he ākonga o Te Reo, he tapuhi ahau. Elevating Māori perspective has been achieved by deliberately framing my model of kaitiakitanga from this worldview, including Te Reo in it, and indigenizing spaces. Principles, values, and practices of my model of practice are Te Taiao (the environment and connections to it), Te Whare Tapa Wha (Durie, 1998), pūrākau (stories, myths, legends), whakatauakī and whakatauākī (proverbs), manaaki (hospitality), whanaungatanga (connections and the making/sustaining of them), matapaki (discussion), ahikā (indigenization of spaces), tikanga (preparedness, karakia, mihi, etc.). There is also consideration of the Nursing Code of Conduct Aotearoa, the roles and responsibilities of both the supervisor and the supervisee, and of ūkaipōtanga – the spaces and places that nurture and reconnect, my model of practice is strengths based and includes emphasis on reflection and goal setting.
