Nurses are at the heart of high-quality care for older people, bringing clinical expertise, continuity, advocacy, and a vital perspective to multidisciplinary teams. This retreat is an opportunity for nurses working with older people to step away from the demands of day-to-day practice, connect with colleagues, share experiences, and return to work with fresh ideas, knowledge, and professional connections.
As clinicians, we deeply value kanohi ki te kanohi — the power of face-to-face connection. The Retreat is about much more than presentations. It is a welcoming space for nurses, doctors, and other health professionals to learn alongside one another, exchange practical insights, discuss the challenges facing older-person healthcare, and strengthen the relationships that support truly collaborative care.
For nurses, the Retreat offers a valuable opportunity to hear different clinical perspectives, contribute your own experience to the conversation, and build connections with colleagues from across Aotearoa. Whether you work in acute care, rehabilitation, community services, residential care, specialist older-person health, or another area supporting older adults, your voice and experience are an important part of the programme.
Alongside the professional programme, there will be opportunities to reconnect and recharge. A range of local social activities and outdoor experiences will help you make the most of your time in Nelson, and we warmly encourage you to extend your stay and explore this beautiful part of Aotearoa with your whānau.
