We are writing to update you on two issues.

Discontinuations

  1. Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM)

Supply Issue

  1. Dapsone tab 25mg

1.Discontinuation - Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM)

The supplier of the Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device has notified Pharmac that they will cease supplying it to New Zealand from 1 December 2026. While stock may remain available within the supply chain for a period after this date, Pharmac intends to delist (no longer fund) Dexcom G6 from early 2027.

People currently using funded Dexcom G6 CGMs will need to transition to an alternative funded CGM that is compatible with their insulin pump, either Dexcom G7 or FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus. We encourage prescribers to transition affected people to an alternative funded CGM as soon as possible, ahead of 1 December 2026.

Dexcom G6 consists of separate sensor and transmitter components. The transmitter is reused for up to 90 days and is transferred to a new sensor every 10 days. In contrast, Dexcom G7 and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus combine the sensor and transmitter into a single integrated unit.

Information and support resources are available to help people transition:

Further information about this discontinuation can be found on our website: Dexcom G6 CGM being retired

2.Supply issue: Dapsone 25 mg tab

  • Link, the supplier, has advised that Dapsone 25 mg tab will be discontinued.

  • An alternate brand has been sourced. Dapsone 25mg tab (Rising) will be listed (funded) from 1 September 2026.

  • The alternate brand is not a Medsafe approved product and should be prescribed and supplied in line with Section 29A of the Medicines Act.

  • In June 2026 Pharmac publicly consulted on a proposal to award supply of dapsone tablets to Medsurge. We are working through the feedback received. Securing supply of dapsone 25mg tab (Rising) will ensure a product is available while a long-term plan for ongoing supply of dapsone is implemented.

  • Further information is available – Dapsone on Pharmac website
