We are pleased to share a new cancer data section on our website – CanStats.

CanStats brings together the latest cancer data, dashboards, indicators, and targets from government and international cancer organisations, into one easy-to-access location. It replaces our previous “Reports and numbers” and “Cancer in Numbers” pages. You can find it on the top menu of our website at www.teaho.govt.nz.

We have organised resources under the cancer control continuum: prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. There are also links to population and cancer system data, alongside the Agency's reports, publications and guidance.

Thank you to the users, including clinicians, researchers, and people with lived experience who helped test the layout of CanStats.

We envisage CanStats as one way to help:

  • Improve access to relevant cancer data for decision‑makers, clinicians, researchers, service providers and advocacy groups.

  • Promote transparency across the sector by sharing data sources and methods, and support the reuse or replication of analytics

  • Identify data gaps on the accessibility, quality, and experience of care for different groups and communities to inform ongoing work to address cancer data gaps to help identify and resolve inequities at a system-level over time.

  • Strengthen system planning, responsiveness, and improvement using high-quality data and evidence.

Over the rest of 2026, we will work with part of the sector to:

  • Refresh the State of Cancer Dashboard

  • Enhance the Cancer Care Data Explorer

  • Automate the Route to Diagnosis Dashboard

  • Redevelop the ROC Dashboard

  • Establish a long-term maintenance plan to support ongoing updates, monitoring, and content growth.

We hope this new section makes it easier for you to access and use cancer data to support your work.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Nicola Hill
