  • The Gardens, Manurewa location, with free parking on site

  • Onsite café with discounted coffee, health insurance, boutique 2nd edition store and more…

At Tōtara Hospice, you’re not just a nurse — you’re a purpose-driven clinician making a real impact every day.

Imagine starting your morning surrounded by native trees, peaceful gardens, and a calm oasis far from the city rush — maybe with a flat white in your hand? Step inside and you’ll find a vibrant community: an on‑site café, our 2nd Edition boutique, and a culture so strong we were named South & Southeast Auckland Employer of the Year 2024.

As one of NZ’s leading palliative care specialists, we have an exciting rare opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner to take on a senior, influential role and to deliver our vision: making the world a better place for dying people.

If you’re a compassionate, skilled clinician eager to deepen your expertise (or specialise) in palliative care, this is your chance. You don’t need to be an expert yet — just bring experience with complex or terminal illness, a learning mindset, and a commitment to holistic, person-centred care.  What matters most is your clinical capability, your heart for this work, and your desire to grow in this specialty. This full-time role offers advanced practice, clinical leadership, decision-making autonomy, and the opportunity to shape models of care across both community and inpatient settings.

Te Mahi | The Role

As our Nurse Practitioner, you’ll work in close collaboration with our Medical Officers and our Chief Nurse Advisor/Nurse Practitioner, ensuring you’re fully supported in your practice. Within our wider multidisciplinary team, you’ll provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and evidence‑based care for patients with complex and life‑limiting conditions. You’ll also play a key clinical leadership role—championing best practice, cultural safety, and high‑quality outcomes across both community and inpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert clinical management within an advanced scope of practice.

  • Order and interpret diagnostics, ensuring clear communication with patients and whānau.

  • Advocate for patients and support ethical and medico-legal decision-making.

  • Teach, mentor, coach and provide clinical supervision to staff.

  • Lead practice across disciplines and act as a consultant within your scope.

  • Apply and critique research to strengthen clinical practice.

  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Promote culturally safe care and support equity for Māori, Pacific and all communities.

Our approach is grounded in the Te Whare Tapa Whā framework, ensuring a collaborative, holistic model of care that allows patients to live their last years well. You’ll find joy in your work, supported by an exceptional team and robust resources.
