We’re writing to update you on changes to dispensing arrangements for Estradiol TDP Mylan (oestradiol) patches, and to ask for your support in helping manage supply.
From 1 September 2026, people can be dispensed up to three months’ supply of Estradiol TDP Mylan patches at once, with no monthly patch limit. This will make it easier for patients to access treatment where appropriate and reduce the number of pharmacy visits.
Estradot patches supply remains limited and unpredictable, and current demand is not sustainable. Without change, there may be times when Estradot is harder to get, or not available for everyone who needs it.To help prevent this, we are asking you to:
Stock both Estradiol TDP Mylan and Estradot brands of oestradiol patches
Dispense Estradiol TDP Mylan patches for:
prescriptions written generically, as appropriate
people starting treatment for the first time
people with no brand preference
Reserve Estradot patches for people who are unable to use the Estradiol TDP Mylan brand of patches
Support conversations with patients about brand choice and available options
Other funded hormone treatment options are also available for some patients, including oestradiol gel (Estrogel), tablets (Estrofem – partially funded), and oestradiol valerate (Progynova).
People told us that, while different patch brands are expected to work the same, that hasn’t been everyone’s experience.
These changes are designed to make it easier for people to use Estradiol TDP Mylan patches as an option, where it is right for them. For those who are able to use the Mylan brand of patch, this will help ease pressure on limited Estradot patches supply and support access to treatment for everyone.
We are working with Healthify to support these conversations with patients and will continue to provide regular updates on stock availability through the oestradiol patches medicine notice on the Pharmac website.
Small changes in dispensing practice across pharmacies can make a real difference. Without them, demand pressure will increase and the risk of local shortages will grow. We appreciate your support in helping prevent this.
