Prohibition in relation to unapproved COVID-19 vaccines

on 13 May

Good morning

On 27 April 2021 Medsafe issued a section 37 Notice under the Medicines Act 1981 which prohibited the importation, manufacture, packing, sale, supply, possession, administration or use of COVID-19 vaccines that had not been approved by Medsafe.  Further information is available on the Medsafe website at:  https://www.medsafe.govt.nz/Medicines/policy-statements/COVID19/Unapproved-COVID-19-vaccine-restrictions.asp.  This Notice effectively closes off the supply of unapproved vaccine via routes such as section 29 and section 25 of the Medicines Act 1981. An approved vaccine is one that has been approved by Medsafe and has been imported under the authority of the organisation / company that holds the relevant approval.
