Dr Juliette Rumball-Smith Clinical Chief Advisor (Primary Care) MoH
Dr Juliette Rumball-Smith Clinical Chief Advisor (primary care) MOH
Juliet is a public health physician and epidemiologist. She has recently joined the Ministry of Health as Clinical Chief Advisor (primary care), coming from Northland where she was Director of Health Intelligence and Medical Officer of Health. Juliette has held previous international positions, including her 12-months as 2016/17 New Zealand Harkness Fellow in Healthcare Policy & Practice (based at the think-tank RAND in California), where she was involved in a suite of studies exploring the use of the Electronic Health Record to improve quality of care. She was also senior research fellow in the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, and a post-doctoral research fellow in the Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill University. Her medical and research career has been largely focussed on equity, reflecting her belief that all people should receive the same opportunities for health and well-being, irrespective of wealth, ethnicity, or gender. She held a clinical training fellowship from the Health Research Council of New Zealand, which specifically explored ethnic disparities in the quality of care delivered in NZ hospitals. Juliet currently lives with her husband and four children in Wellington.
